dear robot

Dear Robot are an atmospheric indie pop band from Stroud. The two-piece started out in 2017, featuring drummer James Dolman and singer/guitarist/synth-player and writer Tom Jacob (www.tomjacob.co.uk). Drawing from a wide range of influences such as Cocteau Twins, Radiohead and Grizzly Bear, resulting in a unique and heady mix of synth laden, rhythmically intricate guitar dream pop, at the heart of which is a collection of thoughtful, well-crafted songs.

Dear robot have just shared new track ‘Okay’ written, produced, mixed and mastered by the very fair hands of tom jacob himself! Have a listen here.

Written by Tom Jacob Performed by Dear Robot (Tom Jacob + James Dolman) Produced, mixed and mastered by Tom Jacob Is it ever right to try to get someone to change their mind? And is it really right to fight for something that was never mine? They say that if you love someone, if you love them then you'll let them go. But now the moment comes to pass, it's a virtue I don't want to know. The truth is that the future's clear; it's one I can't imagine, Where several years down the line I struggle to remember The way you grind your teeth at night And how it feels to hold your jaw until it stops. I wish I could wish it all away. I wish I could say, "I'm okay. How are you?"

here is ‘alone with myself’, produced by Aaron Zahl (Mesadorm) for your listening delight.

Produced by Aaron Zahl. Full lyrics: My head it hit the pillow, and I stared up at the billowing dark. And though I couldn't see you, I knew you were smiling. It made it so much worse. How is it that such kindness I could mistake for loathing? And what does it say about me that all your words came to mean nothing? Alone with myself I am a god. You know, I tried to laugh, but that frail bird - it never took flight. You walked your fingers up my arm and said everything was all right. It made it so much worse. Was Narcissus beautiful for the rippling murk, or despite it? And is my bedroom mirror so beguiling? 'Cus, you know... Alone with myself I am a god. But when I'm with you, I'm nothing. When I'm with you, I am alone. Alone with myself. Was it something that I lost when I traded life for the shivering blaze of the screen? A world where I'm omnipotent; the stage is set - pick any scene. 'Cus when I'm with you, the world is not a stage; It's a dress rehearsal for a show that's never played. Alone with myself I am a god. But when I'm with you, I'm nothing. When I'm with you, I am alone. Alone with myself.
